Absolutely the best meal ever! It has taken me SO long to get here and my husband making this my birthday dinner was definitely worth the wait. We started with the meatball appetizer - 12oz filled with mozzarella, swimming in their delicious signature sauce. We both upgraded our salads to the Caesar. The crouton was delicious and the salads were dressed perfectly. Also, weird to note but the salad was SO cold, in a good way, and it tasted so fresh and crisp. I got the vodka pasta and my husband upgraded to the cacio e pepe & we split them both. They make the cacio e pepe table side which was fun to watch. The vodka sauce was simple and amazing. Both pastas were so good, I couldn't choose which one I liked more. Lastly, I had the most tender filet of my life. It was cooked perfectly and practically melted in my mouth. I chose the Gorgonzola preparation and would definitely get it again, although the filet was so good on its own. My husband had the best chicken parmesan of his life. Three huge pieces that were light, airy, and fried to perfection. Our server surprised me with a complimentary dessert which was such a nice touch. She was very attentive, personable, and explained the menu very well. Every course was timed perfectly. The meal was so filling & we had tons of leftovers which I was really happy about. Needless to say, we will definitely return!!
We picked Alla Famiglia to celebrate my good friend Connie's birthday. I made a reservation online through OpenTable. I was offered a location of 'Bar' which I mistakenly assumed meant a table into the bar. Upon arriving, we were seated at the corner of the bar (2 of us facing forward and the other 2 90 degrees around the bar corner.). I immediately asked the hostess if we could have a table as there appeared to be several that were open. She stated that there were other reservations and the bartender Tony, whom we later found out was the bar director, assured us that he would take good care of us. So not a huge deal, just be aware if you go to make a reservation online. Tony did take wonderful care of us and was an absolute pleasure. We were served warm bread with a dipping oil that had a fabulous bite to it. We selected a bottle of Cabernet to share and he helped us upgrade to a bottle of Zinfandel that we sampled and all liked better. I really loved how he was so knowledgeable about the wine and food that he was serving us. Three of us had the casa salad which Tony served us family-style. It was lovely. Tim opted for and quite enjoyed the Tuscan Panzanella salad which was a seasonal offering. Next, for the pasta course, we shared two orders of Cavatappi Alla Vodka and two orders of Cacio E Pepe, as per Tony's suggestion. The cavatappi was amazing; however, I was a little disappointed with the cacio e pepe as I found it rather bland. We only ate small portions of the pasta, opting instead to take our leftovers home and save room for our dinners. Moving on to entrees, I ordered Chicken Parmesan. It was a very large portion of which I was able to take most of to my home that evening. The chicken cutlets were thin and the sauce and cheese complimented it very well. My husband ordered the Seafood Diavola. The red sauce was flavorful and had a nice kick. The seafood in that dish was done perfectly. Connie ordered the Alaskan Halibut entree which I got to taste and it was melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness. Tim ordered the filet with the Gorgonzola preparation. Again, it was excellent preparation. We all enjoyed our dinners and were more than sated. As a final course, Connie was served a desert (I honestly cannot remember exactly what it was but I think it had passion fruit in it.). What an excellent and personal touch! Again, I cannot say enough about how wonderful our service was from Tony. He really made our experience extra special! We looked for parking upon arrival but it seems like a safer bet to pay the $8 for the valet service. The surroundings and ambiance inside the establishment felt warm and very classy.
Great experience- Gluten free Italian food. Melissa was great! This is definitely a repeat place!
This was truly a five-star experience! What a gem tucked into an unassuming block of Allentown. After spending my last birthday at their sister restaurant Arlecchino in McMurray, we decided to celebrate another special occasion here. I made a reservation earlier that day, grabbing their one available time slot via OpenTable. It's beautiful inside, with an unexpectedly lush lobby and staircase to greet you and, though we were seated on the first floor, I understand there are more rooms of seating up there as well as a full bar. Our server invited us to take a peek before we left but we will leave it as something to discover on the next visit! We were seated on the first floor near the kitchen which had a rustic but still upscale Italian vibe, with big, bright windows facing the street. Just a great ambience. Dinner started with bread and the most delicious dipping oil. They also brought a small bowl of savory hummus for the bread. Your salad and pasta courses come family style if you order the same thing and I was all about wanting the Cacio E Pepe, which they make tableside in a Locatelli cheese wheel. It's the stuff of dreams. I never imagined the Cacio could be topped by my main course as this spot is largely about meat dishes. But, when I mentioned being a vegetarian, our server produced a separate vegan and vegetarian menu page with three apps and four entrées. I was stunned. As Arlecchino had done a delicious, off-menu eggplant Parmesan for me I almost defaulted to the eggplant here, but the vegan Bolognese caught my eye and I asked how it was. Our server was enthusiastic so I went for it and it was unforgettable. Five different types of chopped mushrooms, celery, carrots, onions, thyme, sage. Very few restaurants take this kind of time and care to make something so special for vegetarians. I was blown away. There is also an in-house sommelier who is happy to stop by your table to talk wine pairings for your dinner, whether you're looking for a bottle or just a glass. They offer a complimentary birthday treat of a blondie with raspberry compote; we also had their house speciality dessert, the raspberry tiramisu, which is a recipe passed down from the owner's grandmother. It was delicious, though a little on the too-sweet side; next time I would like to try the Italian love cake, which sounds like a decadent death by chocolate kind of thing. I can see why this restaurant is well-known as a standard bearer for Italian in the area. Prices might look a little high on the surface but you will be taking a lot of food home and eating for another meal or two. Worth the treat.
Saturday night dinner here, pulling up via Uber 2 minutes after our reservation. I will say things got off to a rocky start as we had to wait 5 minutes for our table- but we were changed from a high top table to a regular table, near the kitchen. Meh, give it a shot. Our waitress started explaining the menu in great detail and all that was on my mind was the website's menu having burrata and not seeing it on the physical menu in front of me. So I asked - seasonal item. Ok? We ordered the large meatball to share for the appetizer- filled with cheese and topped with sauce, as well as drinks. The meatball was big, but I missed the interior cheese part. What also made it odd was the waitress cut it and served it to us. I'd rather do that - never have been a fan of the staff doing my job for me, as particular a person as I am (that should be obvious if you've read this far). Anyway - taste wasn't bad, a little on the bland side though. For my entree I ordered the chicken parmigiana. What is really great about this menu is it comes with a pasta course that comes out a few minutes before the protein portion. One option is cacio e pepe - one of my favs - and one Vog turned me onto back in our Lil' Coco's days when Joel decided he was going to pull out his "going to Ruby Tuesday's sweater." Anyway - the cacio e Pepe is prepared in front of the table in a cheese wheel. Good technique and the taste was very good. Well done. The chicken parmigiana was also very good - properly breaded and seasoned, sauce is very good and the cheese topping was a great balance. Also the portion size was very good - I believe 3-4 thin sliced chicken cutlets. It's not everyday that I don't finish a meal and have to have it wrapped up - this night was one. Along with the table bread and the Caesar salad I was losing real estate in my gut. We shared lemon blueberry cheesecake and I- my cup of coffee. Slow start, but a solid meal, and worth a return visit.
Alla Famiglia is a hidden gem!! The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and eager to make recommendations. Our server Audra guided us through the menu, and we decided to start with the Fried Provolone, smoked to perfection. For our main course, I ordered the gorgonzola filet mignon which was cooked to perfection. The gorgonzola sauce added a rich and creamy flavor that was simply divine. We had options for pasta: vodka sauce or the cacio e Pepe. We opted into the cacio e pepe this time around, highly recommend! They make it right in front of you in a giant parmesan wheel. Overall, our experience at Alla Famiglia was outstanding. The food was delicious, the service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting.
From the moment we walked in, we had a 5-star experience. The entire staff was so friendly and attentive, and the server was so knowledgeable about the food and drinks on the menu (I also appreciated that they had a mocktail menu). We started with the meatball appetizer, had the standard salad, and upgraded to the cacio e pepe before my meal of chicken parmigiana. Everything was 5 stars, served piping hot, fresh, and delicious! They do a really good job of timing each course so that one you're done with one, the next one is being served within a few minutes. By the time our main courses came out, we were pretty full from all the previous courses, so had lots of leftovers to take home. They gave me a free Italian cookie for dessert for my birthday, and we also ordered a cannoli (if I had known I got a free dessert, we probably wouldn't have ordered anything else).
Great for: date nights, anniversaries, celebrations If you are looking for delicious Italian food, you've come to the right place. Pricey but nice for a celebration. For appetizers, we ordered the smoked provolone. Presentation was terrific as it came sizzling and hot on a cast iron pan. The server immediately served us the appetizer and then took away the pan. If you like bread cheese, I guarantee you that you will enjoy this. For my entree, I ordered the Tagliatelle Scoglio del Mare. It was divine, indulgent, creamy and the portion size was huge. I ended up taking two thirds of it home and had it for breakfast the next day. I also got to try the Cavatappi alla Vodka. I still dream about the vodka sauce. For dessert, I got the pumpkin creme brûlé - it was nice but nothing special. Overall, highly recommend!
